This course is offered online via the easy-to-use Zoom program.

Each of the stories in this collection takes its title from a woman in Greek mythology, but all of the stories are contemporary, taking place in the present and offering a twist on the ancient myth. A dramatic reading by the author, Richard Matturro, with time at the end of each class for comments, questions, and discussion.

August 5:   Antigone and Phaedra

August 12: Alcestis  (Chaps. 1 - 4)

August 19:   Alcestis  (Chaps. 5 - 7)

August 26:  Alcestis  (Chaps. 8 - 12)


Richard Matturro, a native of Rye, New York, holds a doctorate in English with a specialization in Shakespeare and Greek Mythology. After sixteen years at the Albany Times Union, he taught literature at UAlbany for fourteen years. He is the author of numerous newspaper articles and six novels. Porch of the Maidens was published as an audio book by Otis Manor Studios in 2016.
