W105 | Classical Music as a Reflection of History | Wednesdays - 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. In-person at BCC |
There are numerous instances where paintings, sculptures, and various forms of literature were created to mark specific historical events. Classical music is no different. We will listen to compositions which were crafted as a result of the personal, professional, or political impact significant events in history had on composers, and how they memorialized those in their music. Who, what, where, when, and why these pieces were composed, will be explored. Ken Stark has been involved in many cultural organizations in the Berkshires. He is currently on the Board of Directors of 18 Degrees, the Advisory Committee of Kids4Harmony, and has previously served as a Board member with the Berkshire Bach Society and Berkshire Theatre Group. He is a former professor at the City College of New York and school psychologist for the City of New York Department of Education. |
