Five Sessions -
6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/2

In-person in Lee
Limit: 20

The workshop will engage in selected styles from the Golden Age of Musical Theatre through contemporary trends with focus on the revelation of the human spirit in musical theatre dance.  Dance styles and choreographic vocabularies will be developed and explored dependent on the levels of the participants.  This is a participatory workshop with the emphasis on the joy of moving in space in a group dynamic.  No formal dance experience is necessary, just a desire to discover new views of our crazy world through dance, acting, and dramatic action.  From a Broadway hoofer friend who once heard Agnes DeMille state, “Dancing is just putting one foot down and then the other.”

George Pinney: Nominated for a Tony Award and National Broadway Theatre Award in choreography for blast, George received an Emmy Award for outstanding choreography for the PBS broadcast of blast.  Professor Emeritus and Former Founder and Head of the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre in the Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance at Indiana University, George has directed and/or choreographed for Broadway, the West End of London, national and international tours, regional theatres and over a hundred university productions. Recognized as a master teacher, George was awarded the prestigious Friedrich Herman Lieber Award for Distinguished Teaching, five Indiana University Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and membership in the Faculty Colloquium of Excellence in Teaching.   His students have performed on Broadway, on national and international tours, in regional theatres coast to coast and as well as TV, video and film.  After retiring from IU, Pinney’s summers have been spent at the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre directing/choreographing musicals including West Side Story, Oliver, I Do I Do, Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Guys & Dolls, She Loves Me, Little Shop of Horrors.  George is currently under commission with the Adirondak Theatre Festival supplying the book for a new musical, Johnnie’s Song.
