We will analyze the elements of a short story and do writing exercises working toward an original short story. We will read stories by Updike, Wolff, Poe, O’Connor, etc. We will discuss theory and publication. Bring writing materials or a device to write on and access the internet. Ed Meek is the author of four books of poetry and a collection of short stories. He has had work in The Sun, The Paris Review, The North American Review, The Boston Globe, etc. He has an MFA from University of Montana where he worked with Richard Hugo. He taught American literature, creative writing and composition at Curry College and Austin Prep School. He writes book reviews for The Arts Fuse. He is a Contributing Editor for The Rivanna Review. His most recent book of poems is High Tide. |
