The course will cover the history of the Civil Rights Movement from the Reconstruction Era to 1968. The purpose of the course is to explain how this important movement got started and became such a major force in America. The course will examine how some very powerful Southern white people were able to establish a comprehensive system of domination which generated tremendous human suffering for black people. In the cities and rural areas of the South and in parts of the North, black people were controlled to a large degree economically, politically, and personally.
