This course will introduce some basic self-defense techniques that anyone at any age can learn and practice anywhere. It will include drills that can enhance all aspects of physical conditioning. Striking, kicking, blocking, escape techniques, and more will be practiced in a safe and fun manner. Learned techniques can be practiced at home and with friends away from class. The results from such a wonderful comprehensive exercise program can improve muscle strength, cardiac and respiration condition, range of motion, balance, and physical discomfort including arthritis pain. And, of course, you will get the basics of a skill set that just may come in handy if you are ever in a bad situation.

No age or prior experience is a prerequisite. However, participants should be cleared by their medical practitioner to engage in moderate to moderate+, but age appropriate, physical activity. And this training can help you with any other favorite physical activities such as skiing, cycling, gardening, hiking, traditional gym time, and more.

Andrew Weiss is a recently retired attorney who grew up in the Berkshires in the 1960s and 1970s. He and his wife have returned here to enjoy the skiing, hiking, kayaking, cycling, fine food, culture, and wonderful New England spirit which he has missed. He is something of a fitness devotee and his routines include practicing Krav Maga – the Israeli-originated form of hand-to-hand combat. He began training in his early 60s and found it a wonderful exercise regimen that anyone can benefit from. He offers private instruction at several local gyms as well as courses for OLLI.
