R102 | Musical Theatre Dance for Fun! | George Pinney Thursdays - 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. |
No dance experience needed! This course will explore the brighter side of musical theatre dance to build a better sense of balance, coordination, stamina and FUN in a group dynamic. A participatory workshop, the emphasis is on the joy of moving and exploring our crazy world through dance, acting, and dramatic action. Agnes DeMille once stated in a rehearsal, “Dancing is just putting one foot down and then the other.” In other words: if you can move, you can dance. All choreography will be developed to the level of the participants. The workshop will engage in selected styles from the Golden Ageof Musical Theatre through contemporary trends with a focus on the revelation of the human spirit. George Pinney was nominated for a Tony Award and National Broadway Theatre Award in choreography for Blast! and received an Emmy Award for outstanding choreography for the PBS broadcast of Blast! Professor Emeritus and former Founder and Head of the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre in the Department of Theatre, Drama and Contemporary Dance at Indiana University, George has directed and/or choreographed for Broadway, the West End of London, national and international tours, regional theatres and over a hundred university productions. Recognized as a master teacher, George was awarded the prestigious Friedrich Herman Lieber Award for Distinguished Teaching, five Indiana University Board of Trustees Awards for Excellence in Teaching, and membership in the Faculty Colloquium of Excellence in Teaching as well as being awarded “Professor of the Year” by the IU College of Arts and Sciences. His students have performed on Broadway, in national/international tours, and regional theatres coast to coast as well as TV, video, and film. After retiring from IU, Pinney’s summers have been spent at the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre directing/choreographing. Pinney lives in Lee and this is his second OLLI at BCC dance course. |
