This new course  will focus on a critical element of effective storytelling, creating compelling characters. Whether you are writing memoir where you play a leading role, writing narrative non-fiction with protagonists created for dramatic effect, or writing fiction, with a world populated by invented characters, you need engaging characters to bring readers into the story. In this workshop, you practice getting your characters out of your head and onto the page. You can bring new work or a current project for discussions of voice, point of view, description, dialogue and reflection. You still have that story on your mind, and maybe even on your desk. Let's get it out for others to enjoy!

After a lifetime in New York City and three careers, Lou-Ellen Barkan and her husband retired to the Berkshires where she teaches, writes and runs a writers' group. Her work has appeared in Lowestoft Chronicle, Penumbra, Round Table Magazine, Bright Flash, The Jewish Literary Journal andLittle Old Lady Comedy, among others. A sample of her work can be read at https://www.clippings.me/users/lebarkan.
