M101 | Berkshire Naturalist | Charlotte Hood Mondays - 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. Hybrid - in-person at BCC and online |
Do you currently lead hikes, or do you aspire to? Do you want to deepen your knowledge of the natural world to share with others or to enhance your own enjoyment of the Berkshires? This course will offer naturalist interpretation relevant to what is seen in the Berkshire outdoors. The sessions will focus on the natural and cultural history of the Berkshires. Topics to be discussed include the geologic happenings that shaped our landscape, land use history, climate impacts, basics for identification of common flora and fauna, and the inter-connectedness of it all. The information presented and discussed will be offered at a beginner-friendly level. Participants will be given a chance to put their learning to use during the in-person portion of the class. This hybrid class will take place on Zoom with two on-trail visits. Charlotte Hood grew up in New York City, but quickly found herself at home among the trees while attending Skidmore College in upstate New York. Prior to Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC), she worked as an outdoor educator at Mass Audubon and the Hitchcock Center for the Environment. At BNRC, you can find Charlotte on the trail leading hikes, programs, and volunteer workdays, where she continues to share her love for and knowledge of nature with others. Born and raised in the Berkshires, Taylor Staubach’s path in outdoor education and conservation is driven by a lifelong love of nature and a desire to help others connect with the outdoors. As founder of Berkshire Family Hikes, she created fun and educational experiences for families to explore nature together, giving her a strong foundation in community building and outdoor engagement. In partnership with BNRC, she has been leading rambles across the Berkshires since 2021. |
