Online with one In Person Session at the Clark Art Institute
9/20, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8
Six Sessions
In a series of
fascinating and informative films, and a gallery visit at the Clark Art
Institute, this course presents the lives and works of important
Impressionists. They captured fleeting moments, creating enduring art while
finding new visual language of vibrant color, natural light and depiction of
everyday life. As an introduction to the series, the first session highlights
the role of art dealer Paul Durand-Ruel, a major factor in American
appreciation and vital support. We look at artists Edouard Manet, Berthe
Morisot, Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt,
Camille Pissarro and Paul Cézanne. From Manet’s roots in Realism through
Cézanne’s innovations foretelling Post-Impressionism and succeeding modern
developments, the story of Impressionism is revealed. The Renoir class on October 18 will be led by
Jock Brooks with exploration in the galleries accompanying the film in the
Clark’s auditorium. The other five classes will be facilitated by Ralph Pearson
online.
Online sessions only--the in-person session is filled to capacity.
The October 18 session will be held in person at the Clark Art Institute. The in-person session at The Clark is filled to capacity as of 9/13/22.
