TEACHING FOR OLLI

OLLI at BCC offers courses and programs online via Zoom and in-person at a number of locations. OLLI provides training and support to all instructors on using the Zoom platform, and a staff member or volunteer will be on hand for all class sessions to assist as needed. For more information call 413.236.2190.

OLLI at BCC is a volunteer-run program, and all of our instructors are volunteers who love sharing their knowledge and insight with our members. In gratitude for their generosity, each instructor receives one free course for themselves or a friend or family member, a small gift, and an invitation to our annual Faculty Appreciation Party.

OLLI courses have no tests, no grades, and no prerequisites and cover a wide variety of subjects. They are usually held on weekdays during daytime hours, but can also be scheduled at other times if need be. They are generally 90 minutes long and run weekly, but other options are welcomed.

OLLI at BCC offers five terms of courses each year, with the majority of classes offered weekly for four to six weeks. The semesters are:

    • Winter: mid January through February
    • Spring: April to mid-May
    • Summer I: June (4 weeks)
    • Summer II: mid-July - August
    • Fall: mid-September through October

We have five curriculum committees that review course proposals and work with instructors. They focus on the Arts, Science, Literature, Social Science, and Active Living.  We look forward to hearing from you!

There are many ways instructors can participate in OLLI programming:

    • Four to six week courses (in-person, online, or hybrid)
      • Generally held on weekdays during daytime hours for 90 minutes, but can also be scheduled at other times.
    • Speaking at one session with a longer course
      • We regularly offer courses that feature a different speaker each week in a subject area. i.e. Advances in Medicine, The history and culture of Iceland, Women in the Clergy
    • Distinguished Speaker Lecture
      • 75 – 90 minutes, in-person, online, or hybrid usually in the evening. We are glad to promote new faculty books or projects through these lectures.
    • One to three session workshops (in-person or online)
      • An interactive experience, often with a small number of participants.
    • One to three session mini-courses
      • Similar content to a semester class, but shorter duration and held between terms.
    • Instructor Form - for courses during one of our terms.
    • Workshop/Mini-course Form - for short, interactive workshops usually less than four sessions, and mini-courses.
    • Interested in offering a Distinguished Speaker Lecture or a local author talk? Please write to olli@berkshirecc.edu

All instructors are paired with a curriculum volunteer and/or staff member, and we will work with you on scheduling, program descriptions, technology questions, and more!
