T101 | A Painless Introduction to Knitting | Tuesdays - 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. In-person in Stockbridge |
This course is designed to teach the basics of knitting, allowing the learner to advance at their own pace. Knitting can provide a sense of well-being and focus that serves to encourage productivity, creativity, and relieve stress. Learners will be working on a small project designed to use a variety of techniques including how to “read” one’s knitting and correct mistakes. Learning the basics while actually creating an item is a great motivator to build on your skills and offers quick gratification over the course of six weeks. Students will learn to cast on, bind off, how to knit, purl and utilize various techniques while completing a small project. The use of knit and purl stitches to create varying textures will be explored. Basic terminology, fiber information, and pattern reading will be covered. Required Materials:
Roxanne McCaffrey is a lifelong knitter starting in early grade school. She is also a retired information technology professional and was employed as a sales associate and instructor for almost ten years at Colorful Stitches in Lenox, MA, her "retirement job", until it closed in October 2024. Roxanne’s goal is to empower and encourage you, regardless of the level of knitting you aspire to reach and whatever advanced techniques you wish to explore. Recently Roxanne opened a new shop in Stockbridge with a fellow Stockbridge resident, Diane Reuss called Stockbridge Artisans' Gallery to fill the local need for fine commercial yarns and to highlight and support local artists and artisans. She looks forward to meeting you and showing you what you can achieve while having fun and perhaps making new friends. |
