This course will present a number of great singers whose careers took place in Europe and who never sang at the Metropolitan Opera. This course is meant both for knowledgeable opera fans who will discover many relatively unknown great singers and for less serious opera goers. Great arias and duets from many different popular operas will be presented as sung by the different artists and the instructor will explain the place of those selections in the opera thus helping students become more familiar with the operatic canon.

A retired college professor, Peter Podol discovered opera in 1959 and has attended performances at the Metropolitan Opera ever since. He has an extensive collection of live and recorded performances of opera from around the world from 1900 to the present. His expertise lies in his extensive knowledge of great singers and the arias that best capture their special talents.
