A perennial OLLI favorite, there will be five instructors for this course, who will update participants on recent advances in ophthalmology, cardiology, vascular surgery and the All of Us research program.

  • January 20: The Wonders of the Eye and Vision
  • January 27: Medical Conditions of the Eyes and Vision
  • February 3: Advances in Cardiac Imaging for Challenging Diagnosis: Recent developments in cardiac imaging allow physicians to detect absolute levels of blood flow to regions of the heart so that abnormalities can now be detected when the anatomic evaluations (cardiac catheterization) appear normal.
  • February 10: Interventional Cardiology at Baystate Medical Center
  • February 17: Common Vascular Diseases: The class will focus on four of the most common vascular pathologies including: peripheral vasculara diseast, aortic disease, carotid disease and venous disease. Symptoms, diagnosis and treatment modalities for each disease will be discussed.
  • February 24: An Introduction to Precision Medicine and The All of Us Research Program: This class will describe the emerging frontier of precision medicine, an approach that has led to advances in cancer treatment, cardiology, and other fields. The class will then be introduced to the All of Us Research Program, the largest biomedical study ever conducted in the United States that aims to advance precision medicine by gathering health data from one million or more people living in the US to accelerate research that may improve health. We will cover what the All of Us program is, how to get involved, and how to access the data for your own interests.
