Many early wildflowers of the Berkshires are called ephemerals because they appear only in the spring, dying back in the early summer. But for the careful explorer, spotting them along the trail is a joy.

Join us as we hike trails in the central Berkshires (from Lenox north) in search of blossoms, and native edible and medicinal plants. We will hike on easy to moderate trails, along rushing streams and rising to ridges for beautiful views with the subtle coloring of emerging leaves. Trail selection will be announced week by week as we adjust to the options the spring weather offers.

REQUIREMENT: Hikers should have waterproof hiking boots and hiking poles.

Kate Kidd has been leading OLLI at BCC hikes for three years and welcomes the chance to experience the Berkshires in every season. An avid gardener, Kate is always looking for inspiration from the native plants we will see along the trail.

Sara Hohn worked as an advanced practice nurse specializing in diabetes care for over three decades. Sara is learning the wildflowers of the Berkshires after 30 years enjoying the wildflowers of Oregon.
