; 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, 10/11, 10/18, 10/25

In-person at the Berkshire Museum

With the additional benefit of extended time to demonstrate historical impact, this course offers unique personal perspective.  Evan and Kit Dobelle were actively engaged in the Presidential campaign of 1976, the Carter White House and Department of State, the 1980 campaign, and have had the pleasure of ongoing relationships. Sessions will cover specific topics from before, during, and after the Presidency, with particular attention to foreign and domestic issues as well as the political climate of the period. Evan and Kit will share their personal experiences and insights of both the administration and the individual lives of whom historians are now providing a more complete understanding. Jonathan Alter’s deeply researched 2020 book His Very Best is highly recommended and will provide structure. Scheduled time will be allotted for questions.

In the Carter Administration, Evan and Kit Dobelle were each appointed Chief of Protocol of the United States, with rank of Ambassador, during separate periods.  Evan also served as Treasurer of the Democratic Party (DNC), Chair of the 1980 Carter/Mondale Re-election Committee, and Kit as Chief of Staff to First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Special Assistant to the President.
