Idealist? Humorist? Social Activist? Will the real Norman Rockwell please stand up! His artwork spanning 1913 to 1976 captures the evolution of American life unfolding during the 20th century.
During our Thursday classroom presentation (2 consecutive 90 minute sessions), as students view the paintings of Rockwell over the course of his life, students will vote on which they view as the real Norman Rockwell.
In the second session, students will meet at and visit the Norman Rockwell museum in Stockbridge to view his paintings and studio.
Thursday, May 28: Norman Rockwell art and its significance in the context of evolving American culture. (Bring lunch for break between the two consecutive sessions.)
Friday, May 29: Field trip to Stockbridge to view his paintings and studio.
10:00 a.m. Arrive at museum 10:30 a.m. Art tour by museum docent 12:00 p.m. Studio tour by museum docent 1:00 p.m. Lunch in café (Bring your own lunch and beverages or purchase at café.)
Skip Doyle is a lifelong educator in a variety of subjects. He teaches courses in art, literature, spirituality, business, and outdoor skills. Among a score of course titles, his most recent offerings include: The Hudson River School of art, American Nature Writers & Poets, Torah for Christians, Project Management, and Sailing Fundamentals. Skip Doyle is widely published in magazines and newspapers. His most recent book, The Long Path Journal & Guide describes his 350-mile hike through the backcountry of the Hudson River Valley.
