Welcome to the Foreign Language Film SIG.  In this group we will be watching one Foreign Language Film per session.  The films chosen will be available on multiple streaming platforms, and you will be responsible for finding the film to view.  The group will meet on Zoom prior to the viewing of the film, there will be an overview and history of the film given, and then the participants will leave the Zoom session and watch the film on their platform (or DVD) of choice.  The group will re-gather on Zoom a few minutes after the film is over to discuss.  Everyone is invited to participate in any segment of this experience, and all voices are welcome in the post-discussion.  All of the movies are 2 hours or shorter, and with the introduction and post discussion, this is probably a 2 ½ hour event. 

Au revoir les enfants tells a heartbreaking story of friendship and devastating loss concerning two boys living in Nazi-occupied France. At a provincial Catholic boarding school, the precocious youths enjoy true camaraderie—until a secret is revealed. Based on events from writer-director Malle’s own childhood, the film is a subtle, precisely observed tale of courage, cowardice, and tragic awakening.
