Have you watched Madame Secretary or The Diplomat?  If so, have you ever wondered what it is really like to work at a US Embassy overseas?  What do these shows get right and what do they get wrong? Join active duty Foreign Service Officer Ann DeLong for a presentation on Life Inside a U.S. Embassy and learn who the various staff members are, their different roles and responsibilities, who is really in charge, and how an Embassy functions overseas.  Come prepared with questions as Ann will try to sate your curiosity.  

Ann DeLong is a career member of the Foreign Service currently serving as a Senior Policy Advisor in the Bureau of Global Talent Management.  Ann is committed to bolstering the Foreign Service by encouraging and mentoring the best and brightest from all walks of life to represent their government abroad.  As a management-coned officer, Ann has served as a Special Assistant to the Under Secretary for Management, in Human Resources, General Services, the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, Consular, and Staff Aide positions.  Before joining the Foreign Service, Ann served as the Director of the State Department’s Family Liaison Office.  Ann has lived overseas in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Nigeria, El Salvador, Lithuania, Zaire, and Greece.  She speaks Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
