Shakers and Native Americans shared some similar cultural values and practices - integrated agricultural practices, wide cultivation and use of medicinal herbs, sophisticated basketry, equality among women and men, and the use of music and dance to enhance religious experience. On this walking tour, Hancock Shaker Village docents will share newly researched understandings of the ways in which the Shakers interacted with Native Americans and where their cultural practices intersected.
Hancock Shaker Village is accessible. Individuals who wish to stay and tour Hancock Shaker Village more extensively are encouraged to purchase regular admission tickets after the walking tour.
