Edith Wharton: A Genius for Gardens
Wednesday, August 28, 2019 10:00 am - 12 noon The Mount 2 Plunkett Street, Lenox, MA 01240
“Decidedly, I’m a better landscape gardener than novelist,” wrote Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edith Wharton about her beloved gardens at The Mount. Wharton is recognized today for her contribution to American literature, but she was also a passionate landscape designer, developing the grounds of her Berkshire estate with the same elegance and lucidity she applied to her written work.
Edith Wharton: A Genius for Gardens will examine Wharton’s lifelong love of gardening, discuss her fascination with the European landscape design tradition, and trace the history and development of The Mount’s gardens and grounds from their inception to their recent restoration.
