How Digital and Social Media Have Disrupted Journalism

A Talk with MCLA Journalism Professor Shawn McIntosh

Saturday, October 21st, 2pm
Berkshire Museum

Join us for another fascinating discussion in OLLI's 2017 Distinguished Speakers Series.

The digital revolution has disrupted journalism more than any other communications field, with potentially disastrous consequences for our civic life and our democracy. News organizations everywhere are laying off journalists, shifting to digital-only publications, or closing down completely. Who or what will take their places to act as the fourth estate and be a watchdog to those in power?

Despite the decline in journalism over the past several years, there are exciting new experiments being tried today in newsrooms large and small that promise to challenge the news industry, and that may even alter our basic notions of what it means to be news consumers and active citizens.
