Fusion Dance Lecture and Movement Workshop

This is a lecture that has been developed to enable participants to understand, be inspired and learn about different cultures through dance. The cultures we will be looking are: Flamenco, (Spain), Bharatanatyam (India), West African, modern (USA), Chilean and Caribbean dances.

The goal of this lecture is for the audience to be able to get an understanding, learn the differences, similarities, history and cultural aspects, of each dance style. My aim is that each participant will leave with love, inspiration, understanding and excitement to learn more about cultures and dances from around the world.

Structure:

• Focus on each dance style one at a time. I will begin by explaining their history and movements. I’ll talk about West African dance history, culture and style of movements, then move on to Flamenco and explain its history, culture etc and go on to the other dance styles. Plus I’ll teach basic steps of each style.
  
• Elaborate on these cultural dance forms, their similarities, differences, their shared histories and thematic movements and how they connect with each other.
• Teach a very simple steps.
• Share my fusion dance solo to showcase how I put them all together. 
 - Lastly, there will be a short question/answer session.

Anna Mayta is a dance improviser, choreographer, and instructor. She graduated from Empire State College in June 2001 with a BA in Dance in Education. Ms. Mayta has been teaching, performing, and choreographing for over 15 years. She has choreographed, taught dance, for The National Ballet of Zimbabwe in Africa, in England, and in Boston Area. She is currently teaching, choreographing and performing in the MidHudson Valley area and NYC. Plus directing her dance company called Mayta Fusion Dance. https://www.maytafusiondance.org
